John Capel: State fails Marikana workers by not paying lawyers

The focus of some on the fees of Dali Mpofu (much lower than the evidence leaders and others) detracts from the broader duty of the state to provide the possibility for a fair airing of the case of the injured, arrested and families of the deceased miners.  The claim that evidence leaders can replace their own counsel made by Minister Radebe is presumably not a claim that the evidence leaders would themselves make.  The demand for legal representation to be provided is being undermined by people deciding that Dali Mpofu should sacrifice his fees, because he has already earned enough.  It is not for anyone else to decide on the sacrifices that another individual should make. I can decide on my own sacrifices, not on that of others.  It also detracts from where our focus should be
