I think this film gives some sense of Mandela’s life. Some questions are difficult to deal with adequately in a short film and the focus on one man tends to overshadow the importance and influence of his advisers, notably Walter Sisulu. I think, especially the early part has some insights that are worth hearing or hearing again. I think that some issues are delicate and one may quibble about how they are treated. Others are unfortunate. Not all those convicted in the Rivonia trial served imprisonment on Robben Island, as the film implies. I wonder how Denis Goldberg, the only white convicted feels about going unmentioned, when his situation -the only person with such a sentence, was in some ways more difficult.
